Welket Bungué é artista transdisciplinar, de etnia balanta. Guineense-português, nasceu na Guiné-Bissau (região de Xitole), reside em Berlim e desenvolve o seu trabalho a nível internacional. É cofundador da produtora KUSSA, faz locução para entidades internacionais e desenvolve Escrita Dramática, Argumento de Cinema, Performances e Teatro.
Licenciado em Teatro – ramo de Atores (ESTC/Lisboa) e pós-graduado em Performance (UniRio/RJ), é Membro Permanente da Academia Portuguesa de Cinema desde 2015, membro da Deutsche Filmakademie desde 2020 e membro associado da Academia Europeia de Cinema desde 2021. Desde esse ano, os seus filmes integram o acervo do Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art (Berlim).
Em 2019, foi distinguido com o prémio “Angela Award – On The Move” no Subtitle Festival (Irlanda). Em 2020, protagonizou Berlin Alexanderplatz de Burhan Qurbani (Competição Oficial da Berlinale), performance que lhe valeu uma indicação ao Urso de Prata, uma nomeação como Melhor Ator Principal nos Prémios LOLA da Academia Alemã de Cinema e o prémio Cavalo de Alumínio para Melhor Ator no Festival Internacional de Cinema de Estocolmo. Em 2022, lançou o livro Corpo Periférico, um ensaio autobiográfico sobre cinema de autorrepresentação.
Enquanto realizador, construiu um repertório com mais de 25 obras — entre elas Calling Cabral, Mudança, Jah Intervention, I Am Not Pilatus, Arriaga e Bastien —, exibidas em festivais como Berlinale, BFI London, Sheffield DocFest, IndieLisboa, DocLisboa e Afrikamera.
Como ator, Welket conta com uma vasta filmografia em cinema, televisão e teatro, tendo participado em inúmeros projetos nacionais e internacionais. Entre os mais recentes, destacam-se Berlin Alexanderplatz de Burhan Qurbani (Competição Oficial da Berlinale), Crimes of the Future de David Cronenberg (Competição Oficial do Festival de Cannes) e Pssica, a nova minissérie da Netflix realizada por Quico Meirelles e Fernando Meirelles, com estreia global marcada para 20 de agosto de 2025.

Welket Bungué is a transdisciplinary artist of Balanta ethnicity. A Guinea-Bissau-born Portuguese (Xitole region), he is based in Berlin and works internationally. He is the co-founder of the production company KUSSA, does voice work for international entities, and develops Dramatic Writing, Screenwriting, Performances, and Theatre projects.
Graduated in Theatre – Acting (ESTC/Lisbon) and holding a postgraduate degree in Performance (UniRio/RJ), he has been a Permanent Member of the Portuguese Film Academy since 2015, a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie since 2020, and an associate member of the European Film Academy since 2021. That same year, his films became part of the collection of the Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art (Berlin).
In 2019, he was awarded the “Angela Award – On The Move” at the Subtitle Festival (Ireland). In 2020, he starred in Berlin Alexanderplatz by Burhan Qurbani (Official Competition – Berlinale), a performance that earned him a Silver Bear nomination, a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the LOLA Awards of the German Film Academy (Deutscher Filmpreis), and the Aluminium Horse Award for Best Actor at the Stockholm International Film Festival. In 2022, he published his first book Corpo Periférico, an autobiographical essay on auteur filmmaking based on the concept of self-representation cinema.
